Tax free reward for online filing

Businesses with fewer than 50 employees that submit their annual PAYE tax returns online will receive a reward of £250 tax-free from HM Revenue & Customs.

They will receive the money even if they file the return after the 19 May deadline - provided it comes in by 29 May - and they will also qualify for the reward if an agent or bureau files the return online on their behalf.

While businesses should be fined if they file their tax returns late, HMRC has given them seven working days' leeway after the deadline to allow for postal delays and problematic internet connections.

If the return is received by midnight on 29 May, no fines will be incurred.
