Work-life Balance is 'Challenging'

According to new research carried out in early 2006, 1 in 3 finance professionals find balancing their work and home lives the most challenging part of gaining a promotion,.

Robert Half Finance & Accounting, a recruitment consultancy, carried out the research in conjunction with Accountancy Age magazine. Professionals aged 36 to 55 appear to have the greatest difficulty balancing their work and home lives.

The research surveyed 1,100 finance professionals. One in three claimed to work at least a 46-hour week, and there were no large differences between men and women.

"Companies need to encourage their staff to work reasonable hours, and those in charge need to lead by example," said Dave Jones, managing director of Robert Half. "Flexible working policies can bring huge rewards including higher employee productivity, motivation and commitment, as well as improved recruitment and retention."
